PHYSICAL EDUCATION

 

Mrs. Michelle Helmke is the Physical Education Teacher at St. Jude School. 

Students will learn to explore factors that affect a healthy lifestyle.

Kindergarten, First and Second Grade - Students will maintain personal fitness, aquire an awareness of pesonal health needs, demonstrate gross motor skills, and participate in cooperative group games.

 

Third Grade - Continue to maintain personal fitness, develop and demonstrate gross motor skills, and participate in cooperative group games.  Students will follow more complex sequences and movement in games and dance.

 

Fourth and Fifth Grade - Continue to maintain personal fitness.  Students will develop muscle strength, endurance and flexibility, use rules, safety and strategies of sports and games, and demonstrate sportsmanship and participation in sports and games.

 

Sixth Grade - Continue to demonstrate sportsmanship and participation in sports and games and develop muscle strength, cardiorespiratory endurance and flexibility.  Students will use rules, offensive and defensive strategies, and cooperative sports and games. Students will demonstrate skills and movements necessary to perform individual and team activities. 

 

Seventh and Eighth Grade - Continue to develop muscle strength, cardiorespiratory endurance and flexibility, use rules, offensive and defensive strategies in cooperative sports and games.  Also, demonstrate sportsmanship in sports and games.  Students will demonstrate safe participation in exercise and sports.
