Fr. Don was born at Jackson Park Hospital in Chicago, IL on September 25, 1943. He was raised on the south east side of the city by his parents Tony and Delores. Tony worked first in the Steel Mills for 11 years and became a truck driver for the next 28 years. His mother, Delores, was a Crossing Guard for Chicago schools for 27 years. Fr. Don had a dear younger sister, Arlene, now deceased. Fr. Don attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School, and Mendel Catholic High School, both in Chicago. He then attended the Augustinian Novitiate in Wisconsin for one year, and then attended Tolentine College in Olympia Fields, IL, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in Philosophy. He then studied Theology for one year in Mexico, another year at Tolentine, and two years at the Chicago Theological Union. He completed graduate studies with a M.A. in Theology from St. Xavier College, 1973 & another M.A. in Educational Administration & Supervision from Chicago State University in 1986. He professed his vows as an Augustinian on September 4, 1962, and was ordained a priest December 20, 1969, by Bishop Alfred Abramowicz at Tolentine College in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
Fr. Bill was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. His father was a purchasing agent for Western Electric for 29 years and his mother was a teacher at St. Cajetan School, Chicago, for twenty-three years. He has a younger brother and a sister who still live in the suburbs of Chicago. Fr. Bill attended St. Dorothy School, Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago, one year at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN, before joining the Augustinian Novitiate in Wisconsin. In 1961, he professed his vows as an Augustinian. He continued his studies at Tolentine College (an extension of Villanova University) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1964. He professed his solemn vows as an Augustinian that September 4, 1964. He studied theology at Tolentine College for 4 years and did graduate work at DePaul University in American History. On September 23, 1967, Fr. Bill was ordained a priest in the Augustinian order by Bishop John C. McNabb, O.S.A., at Tolentine College in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
Robert Basler was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago. He earned his high school diploma from Rich East High School, Park Forest, in 1988. After earning an associate's degree from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Governors State University, University Park, Illinois, in 1995.
After working for several years as a fire alarm technician and in the hotel industry, Robert entered the Augustinian Pre-Novitiate formation program at St. Rita Parish, Chicago, in early 2005. He was received into the Augustinian Novitiate, Racine, Wisconsin, on August 15, 2005. He professed his first vows in the Order of St. Augustine in 2006 and his solemn vows six years later.
After professing temporary vows, Brother Basler began theological studies at Washington Theological Union, Washington, D.C., residing at Augustinian College, also in Washington. In 2007, when the Augustinian formation program moved from Washington to Chicago, he transferred to Catholic Theological Union, residing at St. Augustine Friary, Chicago.
He completed a pastoral year at San José Obrero Parish, Chulucanas, Peru, from the summer of 2011 through the summer of 2012.
After his pastoral year, he returned to St. Augustine Friary, Chicago, where he completed his theological studies at Catholic Theological Union, earning a Master of Divinity degree in 2013.
He was ordained a transitional deacon January 13, 2013. On June 8, 2013, Bishop Daniel T. Turley, O.S.A., ordained Robert Basler to the priesthood at Saint Rita of Cascia Parish in Chicago. He was ordained alongside Fr. Homero Sánchez, O.S.A., who served as an Associate Pastor at St. Jude from 2013 to 2016.
In July, 2013, Fr. Bernie Scianna, O.S.A., appointed Father Basler to be the Associate Pastor of St. Turibius Parish, Chicago, where he has served faithfully and passionately for the past three years. He will begin his assignment as the the Associate Pastor of St. Jude - New Lenox in the summer of 2016.
