Read the information below, then register by filling in the form at the bottom of this page.
Date: Saturday, April 29th 7 am until 7 pm & Sunday, April 30th, 2017 from 7 am until 8 pm (We encourage you to attend BOTH days to see the work projects through until the end. It is permissible, but not preferred, that a participant may sign up for only one day.)
Location: • Sacred Heart Mission Church 16485 E Birch St in Hopkins Park, IL 60944 (approximately 1 hour southeast from New Lenox)
Age: This trip is open to all St. Jude parishioners! We encourage families to attend together (children under 13 are asked to have a parent/chaperone with them in a 1 to 3 ratio). We recommend children are in 2nd grade or older. (Anyone 18 or older must go through Protecting God’s Children to participate.)
Cost: $10 per person, per day covers lunch & dinner (family maximum is $80 for the weekend). The cost of the materials needed are provided by the St. Jude parishioner Lenten Donations.
Description of the service: Using Sacred Heart Church as our “home base,” groups will go out into the Hopkins Park area to serve the needs of the community. Jobs may include yard work, painting/staining, simple repairs, as well as projects at the church. A more complete description of the work sites will be available at the essential meeting.
Description of the day: In the morning, we will gather at St. Jude and caravan to Hopkins Park. We will disperse from Sacred Heart into the community, work, eat lunch on-site, and meet back at Sacred Heart for dinner and fellowship. Afterwards, we will caravan back to St. Jude. Sunday evening, we will worship together at the St. Jude 7 pm LIFE MASS.
Transportation: We will carpool in personal vehicles that will caravan from St. Jude Church to Sacred Heart.
What to bring: Participants are asked to wear work clothes and bring some tools depending on the work site (painting items, yard work tools, etc.)
Essential Meeting: All adult and teen participants are asked to attend on Sunday, April 2nd 2:30-4:00 pm in the St. Augustine Day Chapel. (Parents are welcome as well.)
Fundraising Opportunities: All adult and teen participants are encouraged to:
★ Encourage your family and friends to support the Lenten Project.
★ Send a letter for prayer support to your friends and family. Sample letters will be provided. (As missionaries, we set out to do God’s work by serving the physical needs of the community with the strength of the Holy Spirit. Asking for prayer support will deepen the impact of our efforts in immeasurable ways.)
